Round 1 of BVW “Harmomelet”
Round One of BVW's challenge was to “ Develop an interface that will allow guests to perform specific actions within your virtual world.”
As a team, we were assigned to “pick one of the three tasks assigned to your team in the chart below. Then, design a physical interface and short (3-5 min) digital 3D experience that allows guests to perform that task, using the Microsoft Adaptive Controller + Kit with the Unity engine.”.
The choices my team was given were to: Make an omelet, Fold a paper airplane, or Paint a fence/wall.
Based on scope and inspiration for how we could use the adaptive controller to create the experience we chose the prompt “Making an Omelet”. We decided to add a rhythm game aspect to the world.
With a dedicated and talented team, I held daily stand-up meetings to discuss progress and gameplay which was especially crucial as I was a novice in understanding the development of the 3D art and Programming pipelines.
As the sound designer, I was also tasked with developing the music for the rhythm games. I used Logic Pro and premade loops to create three catchy beats that fit the narrative and the aesthetic we were aiming for.
I also assisted with developing the narrative and storyline based around a Popstar who lost her beat and inspiration and turned to cooking to help her find her rhythm.
Within two weeks we iterated and developed a strong and unique take on both rhythm and cooking games and while there would be definite improvements needed to take it to a conference it was commended on the music, art style, and overall difficult goal of trying to merge two challenging genres of games.
I am incredibly proud of what we created for our first round and my team’s hard work and ingenuity.
